Notes: | "Plot is derived from a well known Spanish 'novel', La Duquesa de Mantua, by Don Alonso del Castillo Solorzano, published in the same year"--Felix E. Schelling's Elizabethan drama, v. 2, p. 353. "The printer's epigrammaticall epistle to the understanding reader" signed I.R., states that "Vnknowne to 'th author, this faire courtly piece was drawne to 'th presse". This edition is known to exist in at least three states: one with line 7 of the Epilogue (N3v) beginning 'For if your selfe a masters ...', another beginning 'For if your selues as masters ...' and a third with N3 a cancel *. Cf. Greg. HRC has a copy of the second state. Some copies have been noted with the word 'Maiesies' in title corrected to 'Maiesties'. Cf. Greg. The printer appears to have been William Stansby. Cf. Greg, STC. Ornament on t.p.; head-pieces; initials. Pages [103]-[104] blank. STC 4628 Greg 423a
