Summary:The O'Leary family of old Chicago has two sons. After Jack (Don Ameche) is elected Mayor with the help of his brother Dion (Tyrone Power), the two argue over the future of Chicago's slums. Dion uses his wife, a cabaret singer (Alice Faye) in their dispute. Then the great Chicago fire of 1871 changes the lives of the O'Leary family forever.
